pinterest challenge summer edition

Silly me! I totally thought the Pinterest Challenge was tomorrow for some reason! Oh well. I really love what I did this time, unfortunately they look much better at a distance than up close. And they are not up on the wall yet. 

I started with these $3.50 hooks I found in June. 

Thinking of these Anthro stunners.

I cut my tape and got them all prepped and ready.

I painted them with oil based gloss black that I had on hand. And tried to be as careful as possible since the rounded edges left little dimples here and there. 

Here they are! Not perfect at all but at a short distance they look pretty awesome. In fact the hubby came home to see them and I said I painted them myself and he said "yeah right" he thought I bought them!! And then he tried to recover himself a little :)

I love them! I know they will look even better hanging in a row on the wall. I will update after I do so. And with the anthropologie ones coming in at $18 a pop and since I had all the supplies I needed it was a savings of $43.50! Not bad at all!

i am number four

Today's 30 by 30 I love! It's also my Pinterest Challenge. I have been wanting to add a little gold to my living room pillows. Gold fabric is a little out of my league it seems. So after some thought and a few pinterest searches I decided to paint some gold stripes on a pillow I found on clearance at Home Goods. The pillow and supplies cost me $22.

Here's what I used

I carefully measured, marked and taped off the pillow {this would be easier with a pillow that was flat and not stuffed. I had to make it work, and it did!}

In the end, I decided not to use the fabric medium and just painted. I was worried it might dilute the gold. I did want something to seal the stripe but didn't have anything so I tested before I carefully started to paint the edges. I'm not going to lie I totally prayed at this point for it to work. And it did! 

I took the tape off while the paint was still wet and here is what it looked like with my cell camera. Still wet but super sexy!

And here it is on my couch

I know Halloween is over but I did want to show my final look for my pinterest inspiration. Remember my inspiration picture?

Well here was my final display

I think it looked better in person than on my not so good, borrowed camera {I seriously think my cell takes better pictures guys} But, I really like how it turned out. I'm going to switch it into thanksgiving mode this week. I will be bringing in a bigger banner this time for sure. I will possibly raid my fabric stash and hopefully come up with something brilliant and free.  In time, I wouldn't mind hunting down some jars closer to the inspiration jars. Especially since I can easily move these three throughout the house. But I am excited to see how my little three letter word display progresses.
